Crashology 101

I start out today making sympathetic noises to poor Judie Lipsett over at Gear Diary.

Over the weekend, her (now-former) hosting service ran into some storage-related problems and wound up killing most of her site!

She now has to retrieve what she can from the Wizard of Google (the cache!). Because, of course, her own backup turned out to be no damn good.

(Warren Ellis has been experiencing a similar misery with his work PC!)

So it doesn’t seem to matter how conscientious one is, backing up. Everything will turn on us anyway!
