Exporting America: An Interview With Lou Dobbs

The ultimate extension of the free-trade policies that are being pursued is that not only will there be a race to the bottom for wages for working men and women, but we’re also going to have to eradicate the “inconvenient” and uncompetitive environmental protections that allow us to drink clean water and breathe clean air. And, by the way, those nasty child-labor laws could be an encumbrance to competitiveness; maybe we should get rid of those as well. How far are we going to roll back the progress of the past century?

Boycott The 2008 Olympics In Beijing

March 29, 2008

Merkel says she will not attend opening of Beijing Olympics

The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, yesterday became the first world leader to decide not to attend the Olympics in Beijing.

As pressure built for concerted western protests to China over the crackdown in Tibet, EU leaders prepared to discuss the crisis for the first time today, amid a rift over whether to boycott the Olympics.

The disclosure that Germany is to stay away from the games’ opening ceremonies in August could encourage President Nicolas Sarkozy of France to join in a gesture of defiance and complicate Gordon Brown’s determination to attend the Olympics.

Everyone should boycott it! Athletes too!

Not just for Tibet. But for their poisoning of the world and their nonchalance towards regulating toxic materials used in consumer product manufacturing.

Hey, IOC, were you guys bribed to give China the Olympics venue?

What could any of you have been thinking?

You basically placed a 21st-century event in a country that still thinks it’s the 19th century!

I knew it was a bad idea from the day it was announced.

’21’ Holds Winning Hand At Box Office; ‘Superhero’ Is Superflop; ‘Stop-Loss’ DOA

In 3rd place is The Weinstein Co’s Dimension/MGM spoof Superhero Movie. But despite playing wide in 2,960 venues, the newcomer finished Friday virtually stillborn with only $3.4 million. That means a $9+ million weekend which is 33% less than its studios were hoping and the experts were predicting. Frankly, it’s unthinkable since this pic had a big 75% awareness equally divided among males and females.

Maybe it’s because they also managed to piss off and thoroughly alienate that potential audience by playing whack-a-mole with the YouTube trailer that kept getting taken down? It’s down in my entry about it!

Jack Klugman Sues Over ‘Quincy M.E’ Accounting; NBC Uni Claims $66M Losses

The complaint was filed today in Los Angeles Superior Court. This really sounds like one of the worst cases of phony-baloney studio accounting, not to mention sheer arrogance, in Hollywood history. Geez, when is Big Media going to stop this larceny?

When their greedy carcasses are being dragged to streetlights where they will hang, their final thoughts will still be, What did I do wrong?

Fairness and justice are two words that never enter their heads. Or hearts. (Well, if they had hearts to begin with.)

You CAN Fight And WIN!

Did you know that Superman was for the longest time an object of torment to its own creators?

For decades they never saw a dime for their creation?

From Superman, which for decades was virtually a defining icon of the American spirit!

Both creators are dead, God rest their souls, but their heirs kept up the fight.

And won!

The Siegel Superman decision

A Siegel Superman copyright decision FAQ

I hope this is the opening shot in stripping the megacorporations of the creations they’ve looted from their creators.

Creators should forever own the rights of their creations. By law other entities should be prevented from coming into ownership of those rights!

The old days of “business” equaling legalized coercion and theft are over.

Don’t shed a tear for Time Warner/D.C. Comics.

This is just a small pinch of what they deserve.

Next, dear God Almighty, let me live long enough to see justice done for the estate of Jack Kirby!

Update: Go read Nikki Finke about this. Wonderful stuff. (Update: Link fixed.)

Red Headlines For March 29, 2008

Oh, it’s getting worse.

Treasury Dept. Plan Would Give Fed Wide New Power

WASHINGTON — The Treasury Department will propose on Monday that Congress give the Federal Reserve broad new authority to oversee financial market stability, in effect allowing it to send SWAT teams into any corner of the industry or any institution that might pose a risk to the overall system.

The proposal is part of a sweeping blueprint to overhaul the nation’s hodgepodge of financial regulatory agencies, which many experts say failed to recognize rampant excesses in mortgage lending until after they set off what is now the worst financial calamity in decades.

Democratic lawmakers are all but certain to say the proposal does not go far enough in restricting the kinds of practices that caused the financial crisis. Many of the proposals, like those that would consolidate regulatory agencies, have nothing to do with the turmoil in financial markets. And some of the proposals could actually reduce regulation.

According to a summary provided by the administration, the plan would consolidate an alphabet soup of banking and securities regulators into a powerful trio of overseers responsible for everything from banks and brokerage firms to hedge funds and private equity firms.

While the plan could expose Wall Street investment banks and hedge funds to greater scrutiny, it carefully avoids a call for tighter regulation.

Emphasis added by me.

So then, pardon the rude question, what the fuck is the point?

Oh, here we go:

The plan would not rein in practices that have been linked to the housing and mortgage crisis, like packaging risky subprime mortgages into securities carrying the highest ratings.

The plan would give the Fed some authority over Wall Street firms, but only when an investment bank’s practices threatened the entire financial system.

Emphasis added by me.

In other words, it’s our money being used to save the fat asses of the greedmeisters!

Who are:

There we go! Their icon!

Remember that movie? He was a fraud and a thief!

Just like his real-life counterparts who bray about the “free market” — yet the first time it nibbles on their ankles and causes them to stumble, they scream for a Federal Bailout because “we’re too big to fail!”

Let them fail. Why should they get help when families are being kicked out of millions of homes across this nation? Homes they were enticed into by the greedmeisters at the lowest level of this stinking, corrupt pyramid scheme that went unchecked for the past decade!

If this isn’t another reason for a revolution in November, I don’t know what the hell is!

High Rice Cost Creating Fears of Asia Unrest

HANOI — Rising prices and a growing fear of scarcity have prompted some of the world’s largest rice producers to announce drastic limits on the amount of rice they export.

The price of rice, a staple in the diets of nearly half the world’s population, has almost doubled on international markets in the last three months. That has pinched the budgets of millions of poor Asians and raised fears of civil unrest.

Shortages and high prices for all kinds of food have caused tensions and even violence around the world in recent months. Since January, thousands of troops have been deployed in Pakistan to guard trucks carrying wheat and flour. Protests have erupted in Indonesia over soybean shortages, and China has put price controls on cooking oil, grain, meat, milk and eggs.

Food riots have erupted in recent months in Guinea, Mauritania, Mexico, Morocco, Senegal, Uzbekistan and Yemen. But the moves by rice-exporting nations over the last two days — meant to ensure scarce supplies will meet domestic needs — drove prices on the world market even higher this week.

This has fed the insecurity of rice-importing nations, already increasingly desperate to secure supplies. On Tuesday, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo of the Philippines, afraid of increasing rice scarcity, ordered government investigators to track down hoarders.

Emphasis added by me.

Everything is coming to a head all at once.

Inflation, greed-inspired fraud, governmental favoritism for the greedmeisters, soaring oil prices, falling American dollar value, and now food is rapidly coming into focus.

And this is still the introduction; the credits rolling over the theme music. Act One hasn’t yet begun.

I asked a question here. That question is still valid.

Is The April 1, 2008 Truckers Strike Real?

March 29, 2008

Just look at the search slots taken up yesterday and today:

That’s unprecedented for this blog. And easily ties the Barbie Bandits at the old blog.

So I’d say, Yes. This Truckers Strike is real.

When, however, will the supressive mainstream press begin covering it in earnest?

God bless the American trucker!
