Three Chinese banks in world’s top four: study

The study found that banks in North America and Western Europe had suffered a loss of 695 billion dollars in market capitalisation at the end of 2007 while their counterparts in emerging market countries Brazil, Russia, China and India had seen their market capitalisation increase by 753 billion dollars.

So let’s see…

We give mortgages to people who can’t afford them, bundle those mortgages into packages that are then fraudulently laundered into investment vehicles, and then when the whole pyramid scheme collapses, we discover the rest of the world has been prospering because they, you know, actually make and sell things?

This is a shock?

Heparin Contamination May Have Been Deliberate, F.D.A. Says

WASHINGTON — Federal drug regulators believe that a contaminant detected in a crucial blood thinner that has caused 81 deaths was added deliberately, something the Food and Drug Administration has only hinted at previously.

Where did it come from?

Hello, China.

Your leaders are goons and thugs!

The F.D.A. has identified Changzhou SPL, a Chinese subsidiary of Scientific Protein Laboratories, as the source of the contaminated heparin. A Congressional investigator said the contaminant, oversulfated chondroitin sulfate, cost $9 a pound compared with $900 a pound for heparin.

Emphasis added by me.

I repeat: goons and thugs! And I add: thieves!

Chinese officials have disputed the F.D.A. contention that the contaminant caused death and injury, and they have insisted on the right to inspect American drug plants if the F.D.A. insists on inspecting Chinese ones.

Emphasis added by me.

Goons and thugs. And thieves. And now liars too!

The agency finally conducted an inspection of the facility in February and found so many problems that the F.D.A. blocked the plant from exporting to the United States. Mr. Nelson was even more critical of Baxter International, which bought heparin ingredients from Changzhou SPL from 2004 through 2008 but did not inspect the facility until September 2007.

Wake up to the rest of the world, China.

You’re disgracing yourselves.

And adding to our own disgrace too!

Under withering questioning, Dr. Woodcock said that the F.D.A. would need another $225 million annually to inspect every foreign drug plant every other year, the frequency most say is needed. The agency will spend $11 million this year on foreign drug inspections.

Emphasis added by me.

And here’s an idea for our dimwitted leaders — our own goons, thugs, thieves, and liars! How about prohibiting medicines, vitamins, and their ingredients from being imported from China?

Even interfaces for web widgets in China are using the iPhone UI!

Sina Goes Widgets

Sina, the most popular Chinese web portal, today quietly launched a new product called Sina Mofun with an iPhone-like interface.

Sina Mofun, similar to Yahoo Widgets, is a desktop widgets client, which closely integrated with Sina’s web 2.0 services, including blog, photo sharing, video sharing, groups, forums and others. On Sina Mofun, you can read your friends’ latest activities, or newsfeed, receive instant notice for new comments on your blog posts, photos or videos. It can also be used as an IM tool for real-time chatting with your friends in Sina. Currently only limited widgets for Sina’s services are available on Sina Mofun, and it does not support any open developer platform now. Sina Mofun is just a tool to bundle Sina’s various services and build a walled garden for users, at least so far.

Woman nabbed for strangling husband at home

“My husband had been ill over the past 20 years. He had repeatedly shouted at me for many years,” she was quoted as telling investigators.

At around 1 a.m., Ezaki strangled Mitsuo with a rope at their home in Kanie, local police said. About 40 minutes later, prefectural police received an emergency call from Ezaki reporting that she strangled her husband.

Osaka man jailed for nine years for killing mama-san lover

Court records showed that Mori strangled Nagata in her bar in what was then the Mie Prefecture city of Ueno in around June 1998. He then cut up her body, burying part of the remains in a forest in Kameyama, Mie Prefecture. He pretended Nagata was still alive by putting up a sign at her bar saying that it had gone on hiatus.

He escaped prosecution for illegal disposal of her body, as the statute of limitations on the case had expired by the time he was arrested.

Woman arrested for strangling infant son who wouldn’t stop crying

“I was annoyed because my son wouldn’t stop crying,” Kamiaka was quoted as telling investigators during questioning.

At around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Kamiaka strangled her 1-year-old son Ryoma with her bare hands in the kitchen of her parents’ home in Nisshin, local police said.

Kamiaka had been worrying that she could not handle her parental responsibilities, and she and her son had been staying with her parents since early April.

Juvenile offender sentenced to death for murdering woman, daughter

Commenting on the defendant’s statements that he raped Yayoi Motomura in an attempt to revive her, the court said, “That is a preposterous idea, and it is doubtful that he could think of such a thing in front of a corpse.”

At least he will not be a taxpayer burden much longer!

Who is the mentally deranged fuck who infected societal thinking with this suicidal notion that people who don’t murder have to pay to shelter, feed, and care for the health of the people who prey on them?

Dougie Hayward, tailor who dressed stars of the 1960s, dies aged 73

Born to a working-class family in pre-gentrified west London, Hayward’s father cleaned boilers for the BBC while his mother toiled in a bullet factory. He never forget his background retaining a love for football and beer that belied his veneer.

Hayward’s was the archetypal 60s success story. He left school at 15, apprenticed to a tailor who visited the flats in Cadogan Square where his uncle was a caretaker. He later said he only took the job because he knew his family would never be able to judge whether he was any good.

As fate would have it, he very good indeed. But he struggled to get a job as a cutter and even Oxford Street would not countenance him as a salesman because, in their view, his Cockney accent precluded him from meeting well-heeled customers.

It was a social division he was never to accept and in 1967 he opened his Mount Street shop, which continues to trade.

“He was very, very funny,” recalled his daughter yesterday. “He was not scared of society and he refused to be penned in. Luckily for him he was in the right place at the tight time. He just couldn’t have happened before the 1960s,” she said.

And:

“He started out being very fashionable but he maintained it. He made friends with people before they were famous. He made them look good and continued to make them look good. He said to me once that you should never notice the suit but you should notice the man – it should make you look younger and thinner. It shouldn’t be about fashion. He was amazing at doing that.”

Actor James Coburn once called him the “Rodin of Tweed.”

‘Brainless’ muggers sentenced to 54 years for beating to death grandfather who defied them

After Mr Smith refused their request for a cigarette, Buckley punched him in the face before the pair dragged him to a darkened yard, threatened him with a knife and demanded his property.

The 62-year-old had only bought the phone a week earlier and refused to give it up, but was put in a headlock and hit and kicked repeatedly, causing fractures of the skull, cheek, jaw and larynx.

Taking his phone – which was later sold for just £20 – the pair left Mr Smith dying where he lay, and his body was not found until 17 days later.

Sex slave dungeon: Rescued children communicate with their mother using animal-like growls

The pensioner imprisoned his daughter Elisabeth for 24 years, repeatedly raping her and fathering her seven children.

Three, Kerstin, 19, Stefan, 18 , and Felix, five, were forced to live with her in the cellar.

They all have defective immune systems and the eldest, Kerstin, 19, who is critically ill with kidney failure, has lost most of her teeth due to vitamin deficiency.

And:

Stefan and Felix have so far reacted to the world outside their dungeon with amazement. Felix asked: “Is that God up there?” when he saw the moon for the first time.

And:

Psychologists say that the ordeal suffered by the four at his hands would mark them indefinitely.

Bernd Prosser, a clinical psychologist told Austrian television, said: “The four will never be able to live normal lives. I am afraid it is too late for that.”
