CBS: Million Dollar Password

June 12, 2008

Regis Philbin, who had his Millionaire show run into the ground by the eejits at ABC, has now surfaced on CBS with another million-dollar game show: Million Dollar Password.

It’s quite different than the classic game, where one clue was shown and passed between a celebrity-contestant team until one got it right to score a point. Now each celebrity-contestant plays a total of four rounds, with the passwords staying within each team. Whoever wins the best of four (or four plus a tiebreaker which goes back to classic Password style) is eligible to play for one million dollars in a series of rounds of increasing difficulty.

It’s fast paced and exciting!

I missed it last week, forgot to see it on the Net as a repeat, and I’m catching tonight’s episode.

It’s so great to see Betty White play. She is so damned good!

Apple’s App Store: Desktop Friendly

June 12, 2008

I wondered a few months ago about whether or not the App Store would require an iPhone or iPod Touch for access.

Nope. It can be accessed via a desktop computer:

This is really great news for people who will sit on the fence waiting for Just The Right App to push them into purchasing an iPhone or iPod Touch.

Flixwagon Does Live Vidcasting on iPhone

From the FAQ:

What type of mobile phone do I need to broadcast my live videos?

Flixwagon is working toward making our technology available to anyone with a camera phone but as of now our product only works on the following model: Nokia Series 60 3rd edition.

What I don’t understand is why Google/YouTube hasn’t done this. Assuming an app will do .mp4 video, it would go straight up to YouTube.

Hint to Veoh: Work on something like this!

I’d love to have something like this that would allow me to save live video on a server. I can forsee using this to document police brutality, rotten store staff, muggings, etc, etc. The cops and crooks can confiscate or steal the iPhone, but the video would persist on the Internet, out of their paws.

Another hint to Veoh: Work on something like this!

Hey, Jobs, video recording absolutely must be part of iPhone 2009!

Warner Bros. Inks Distribution Deals With Joost, Veoh, Everyone But Hulu

Warner Bros. Television Group (TWX) signed distribution agreements for the broadband version of its reinvented WB Network, as well as KidsWB.com, with Joost, Dailymotion, Sling Media, TiVo and Veoh Networks, which will carry the ad-supported broadband “channels,” when they launch in September.

Blog Notes: Snipshot Test

June 12, 2008

Over at JK on the Run, Fiend Kevin C. Tofel posted: Is there a browser-based Snipping Tool? You betcha!

That tool, Snipshot, sounded intriguing, so I downloaded it and just installed it in Firefox.

This graphic is my first test of it:

That’s simply the Firefox logo (duh!) from the download page itself, proportionally stretch-resized.

Most of the graphics I use are on my hard drive. But sometimes I need to grab something off the Net. This could be helpful and let me skip the Photo Toolkit step in some instances.

OK, I just thought I should see if it could do what I use Photo Toolkit for. Here’s a test of something opened from my hard drive that was cropped and then resized in Snipshot. This is the kind of thing I do most of the time:

Dashblog is also recommended by Fiend Kevin. I downloaded that and was not pleased with my test. It didn’t actually upload a test image from another web page. It only linked back to it. I think that’s bandwidth siphoning. That’s not something I do. I upload to Blogger the same images I use here on WordPress, even though I could link back. I’ll have to see if there are other uses for Dashblog.

Puppy Killer David Motari Expelled From U.S. Marines

June 12, 2008

Now that this sick scummy bastard’s name has been confirmed by the U.S. Marines itself, I can post it here.

This is the original Internet video (posted outside the U.S.). Refresh your memory if you must.

Here are screensnaps:

Here’s the article with the final good news:

Marine expelled, another punished over puppy video

HONOLULU (AP) – The Marine Corps said Wednesday it was expelling one Marine and disciplining another for their roles in a video showing a Marine throwing a puppy off a cliff while on patrol in Iraq.

The 17-second video posted on YouTube drew sharp condemnation from animal rights groups when it came to light in March.

The clip shows two Marines joking before one hurls the puppy into a rocky gully. A yelping sound is heard as it flips through the air.

“That’s mean. That’s mean, Motari,” an off-camera Marine is heard telling the Marine who tossed the black and white dog. The off-camera Marine snickered slightly afterward.

Lance Cpl. David Motari, assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment at Kaneohe Bay, is “being processed for separation” from the Marine Corps, the Marine Corps said in a news release. He also received unspecified “non-judicial punishment.”

The Marine Corps didn’t say what role Motari played in the clip.

This I don’t understand at all:

The second Marine, Sgt. Crismarvin Banez Encarnacion, also received unspecified “non-judicial” punishment.

Encarnacion is assigned to the Weapons and Field Training Battalion, Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.

First Lt. Binford Strickland, a Marine Corps Base Hawaii spokesman, said the service may not reveal what roles the two men played in the video because that was part of the investigation. He said releasing such information would violate the Privacy Act.

Emphasis added by me.

Privacy Act?!!? They are public employees, goddammit! We have a right to know what they did while drawing pay from our tax dollars!

Well, David Motari, your future is shit. This posting and your name will remain on the Internet for years and years and years and years.

Go ahead and try to get a job.

The first Internet search your potential employer does will call up my posts.

You have no future.

And where are all those creeps who claimed the video was a fake?

Kanjorski caught in another ‘gotcha’ moment

U.S. Rep. Paul E. Kanjorski is getting a first-hand lesson in the hazards of the digital age.

For the second time in a month, a clip on the wildly popular video-posting Web site, YouTube, is earning him election-year attention he’d probably rather avoid.

The clip shows him apparently pushing down on the video camera of a man trying to question him about the Iraq war.

The man’s identity, known on YouTube as truthaboutkanjo, remains unknown. An attempt to reach him Wednesday via YouTube’s message system proved unsuccessful.

“I may have overreacted when this person stuck a camera in my face. But I feel like it was one of those ‘gotcha’ moments in politics, and my comments were misrepresented,” Mr. Kanjorski, D-Nanticoke, said in a statement.

Watch the clip:

Congressman Kanjorski doesn’t apologize to anyone

Another smug fuck in a suit who needs some basic 101 in Who The Hell He Is.

He works for us.

His mouth is on our tit, providing the milk of his salary.

How dare he or any other civic employee engage in this kind of behavior.

We are your boss. You account to us.

If you don’t like that, get your smug ass back into the private sector.

God Bless The Supreme Court!

High Court ruling may delay war crimes trials

Before I pull the key quote, I need to note something here.

Spin.

This is the second iteration of this story.

Same URL as the first. Which means Newspeak is in full effect.

I didn’t screensnap or otherwise save the first iteration. I now regret that. For it was a ringing endorsement of inalienable human rights.

This spun headline makes it seem like a setback in the “War on Terror.”

Here is the quote:

Justice Anthony Kennedy, writing for the court, said, “The laws and Constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times.”

That deserves stark repetition:

The laws and Constitution are designed to survive, and remain in force, in extraordinary times

Is anyone in our government listening?

Blog Notes: Go Play With Toy #2

June 12, 2008

Which I didn’t have time to post yesterday.

Repeating:

I’m dealing with a backlog I really want to get out of the way.

So I’m curtailing the blog.

I’m putting up two toys for you lot to play with.

Before that: Have you gone and voted for Mark Billingham yet? Go now!

I’m not putting the toys here because embedding Veoh video requires too damned much work.

Vodpod puts the thing in a published post, which means people coming to the blog see a post that I’m actually editing to put in the text I want it to have. This is a pain in the ass.

So, the Veoh videos you can go play with will appear over at the Blogger backup blog.

Here’s the second one: Soul Eater – Episode 1.

It’s less than a half hour long, so it will play completely in the blog post.
