Barry Eisler Meets John Rain

June 14, 2008

This has got to be one of the best things to happen to a writer.

Here’s writer Barry Eisler standing next to Kippei Shiina who is playing character John Rain in the movie version of Eisler’s novel, Rain Fall.

Victor Gischler Wants You Punished!

June 14, 2008

The extraordinary Victor Gischler.

He writes crime fiction with plots that make Cornell Woolrich dance a gleeful jig underground.

His first science-fiction/futuristic novel is due out soon.

He’s just finished his latest novel, Bad Alchemy (love that title!).

Now Marvel Comics has deflowered the comic fan in him and turned him pro.

He’s written a Punisher book.

What’s next on the checklist for Victor Gischler’s World Domination?

The script for Iron Man III, perhaps?

Elephants Dream: I Gasp!

June 14, 2008

Elephants Dream

Elephants Dream is the world’s first open movie, made entirely with open source graphics software such as Blender, and with all production files freely available to use however you please, under a Creative Commons license.

So how good could such a thing be?

I learned about it only because the band Million Kids sent a music video via MySpace Bulletin that used images from it. My. Jaw. Dropped. Then bounced.

Crafty bugger.

But what ebook software is that? I’m glad to see navigating through pages by flicking. Scrolling would be a horror!

An entire article about it.

Ah, Nantucket!

June 14, 2008

The Benchleys of Nantucket

Yeah, I spent a good portion of a day there on several consecutive summers as part of a field trip.

He makes me all misty and gooey and nostalgic for the beauty of Cape Cod.

I haven’t been back there since the early 1970s.

Given how much has changed elsewhere, I fear what horrors I might find.

Sometimes the only way to relive the past is via time machine.

Go read Jeff Shult’s post. It’s beautiful.
