Speakers UP! For Carly Simon: Let The River Run

June 21, 2008

So there I was, in the most miserable excuse for a city on the entire planet — aka Chicago — in a hotel room at night, working on a fruitless, thankless assignment for an ad agency that was major in its field. And this is what I heard over and over and over again. It was the pay-per-view movie at the time and I kept the channel tuned to the advert. It was the only thing keeping me tethered to earth while forces conspired to undermine and subvert me.

Let The River Run

It’s pretty. It’s energizing. But I still think the lyrics don’t make any damned sense!

We’re coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.

Let the river run,
Let all the dreamers
Wake the nation.
Come, the New Jerusalem.

Silver cities rise,
The morning lights
The streets that meet them,
And sirens call them on
With a song.

It’s asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.

We’re coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.

We the great and small
Stand on a star
And blaze a trail of desire
Through the dark’ning dawn.

It’s asking for the taking.
Come run with me now,
The sky is the color of blue
You’ve never even seen
In the eyes of your lover.

Oh, my heart is aching.
We’re coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.

It’s asking for the taking.
Trembling, shaking.
Oh, my heart is aching.

We’re coming to the edge,
Running on the water,
Coming through the fog,
Your sons and daughters.

Let the river run,
Let all the dreamers
Wake the nation.
Come, the New Jerusalem.

And by the way, the dark forces won.

They always do.

Twelve Thousand Dollars An Hour

June 21, 2008

And it happens because we let it happen.

Never in the history of mankind have so many been held hostage by so few!

Minimum Wage

Consider this:

The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them. — Matthew 11:5

I don’t recall any passages about that guy making twelve thousand dollars an hour!

And he raised the dead!

What do you have to say about that, all you false teachers who claim God Votes Republican?

At least at the new ymail.com emailbox.

Someone snagged my name at yahoo.com, so I had to append zero-two to it.

Thing is, I don’t yet know if I’ll use it.

But at least I have it.

This is the longest post on this subject I’ve yet done. It has multiple videos in it, so I have to break it onto the next page otherwise the videos will clog the blog (something I can’t do at the Blogger backup blog).

Photo Album: A Strange Pair

June 21, 2008

Photos taken Thursday, June 19, 2008

During my walkabout in Manhattan, I found myself behind this strange pair of people:

If you can’t tell, that’s a young man and young woman. The woman is on the right, in the red pants. Her arms had vibrant inking; it looked more like magic marker than tattooing. These Philips crapcam photos don’t do justice to their outfits. Anyone know what style this is? Or did they make it up?

By the way, I heard them speak (she called him “a poser”[!]). They were American. Not, as I thought, British.

Gasoline On June 21, 2008

June 21, 2008

Photos taken Thursday, June 19, 2008, but the prices remain the same today, June 21, 2008 here on Satan Staten Island, NY:

Super is up to $4.53/gallon.

Diesel is steady at a whopping $5.25/gallon.

So, do you think it’ll hit the predicted $5.00/gallon by July 4th?

Educate yourself!
