Right, if you did not watch the minor spoilerage in the later BBC trailer here, do not go further!
If you did see that trailer you can go ahead and click through with this guarantee: NO spoilers ahead!
Digital Santa was good to me!
The TARDIS lands and The Doctor is like a little kid!
Well, who wouldn’t be?
It’s Christmas Eve in London, 1851!
Suddenly, there’s a cry: “Doctor! Doctor!”
And WTF? The Doctor meets someone else who claims to be The Doctor!
This other Doctor has a companion, named Rosita.
The Cybermen! But you knew that.
And that is all I will reveal! Now, some stunning imagery that does not reveal any plot points:
Right. Some points.
First what did I think? The words that sprang to mind were Epic and Magnificent! Russell T Davies still impresses the hell out of me.
Goddard directed this as if it was a feature film. This is Grade-A++ work!
And Murray Gold does a gigantic score. Big and bombastic and wonderful.
Having not seen David Tennant since the season conclusion months ago, I came away from this special with a brand-new appreciation of him. It’s easy to overlook the craft and skill he brings to the role. That absence made me see that clearly now. He just nails it and makes it his own in so many little ways.
I can’t say more than that.
