Batman: Murdered By Bankruptcy

November 29, 2008

As in writing bankruptcy.

Batman killed by his OWN dad

Bruce Wayne – who by night is Batman – gets murdered by a man claiming to be the father he thought was dead.

In a highly controversial new storyline Bruce, who first appeared in 1939, is killed by Simon Hurt – the leader of the shady Black Glove organisation.

Simon claims he is really Dr Thomas Wayne, saying he faked his own passing when Bruce was a child.

That’s about as bankrupt as possible.

Batman to be killed off after 70 years

Yeah, because, you know, it’s easier to fucking kill an icon than think of new ways of using him.

One Strange Way … Is Strange

I found this looking through a bunch of new Twitter Followers. One is @onestrangeway.

One Strange Way is the title of a “digital graphic novel with interactive features.” What it will run on, I don’t know.

There’s a development blog — but updates stopped in June. Updates seem to be via Twitter now.

Go to the site itself and see the video trailer. That’s where I stole that above illo.

Scanning Around with Gene: The Best Type Book with No Typesetting

The 1927 edition of Studio Handbook by Samuel Welo is 233 pages of beautiful type and timeless design advice. Only this book comes with a twist – every page was hand-lettered by Welo.

This is stunning and beautiful work.

It also contains some type and design tips for those who are blind to that sort of thing.

Murderdrome: Eleven Years Old!

August 29, 2008

Update: And yet another twist. The comic was originally done in 2005! See the Comment here.

There’s another twist to the Murderdrome comic book that was banned by Apple.

A Commenter with the handle FishKill stated:

Just done a bit of poking around the net with Murderdrome, and the story isn’t a new one.

Murderdrome was originally penciled by Simon Penter back in 1997. You can see his artwork here:
http://www.simonpenter.com/html/murderdrome_0.html

So this is nothing new, just a new medium for distribution. The bloody story is over 11 years old.

And he is correct! See the 1997 2005 version here.
